12 Photography Assignments of 2019

This is a challenge created by Marilyn Benham and has now been running for three years.  Marilyn was on the Google+ social media platform where a large number of similar photo challenges used to be held.  

The idea of the challenge is that at the start of the year you are given a list of 12 themes and the challenge is to take one photo that represents each months theme.  The only rules are that each photo must be taken in the current year and each theme must be delivered in the last week of the assigned month.  

Simple really!!!

The aim of the exercise is to get you out at least once a month and taking photos.  Having a theme simply gives you something to aim for.  Here is this years list in reverse order along with my images.

December - Chairs

There are so many glorious chair scenes out there,in all various stages if it's life just waiting for your creative eye to bring it to the world as you see it!
Photos due between ( 25th-31st.)


November - Stacked

Have fun with this one, either be on the look out for stacked items, or create your own stacked photo.


October - Cat's Eye View

Shoot from the height of a cat


September - Framed

using an actual empty frame, most people have one kicking around, but you can make one, or use your imagination to create something unique.

August - One object

with almost no other background. Can be a person, boat, animal, tree, whatever you find, see it through artistic eyes. This may be a good assignment to use B&W if you like.

July - Interesting hand gestures or body language

Keep an eye out being more aware of the people around you of all ages.

June - Shoot from the hip

No using the view finder. by doing this we see the world from a whole new view, and you may even get some really unique photo-art.


May - Colour

Find something that jumps out at you keeping in mind the whole composition.


April - Bubbles and or Balloons

Who doesn't love balloons and bubbles. If you don't find or see any, this is a good time to experiment.


March - Backgrounds

Non-distracting Backgrounds Be aware of the compositions background.



February - Shadow Art


Shadows are everywhere, and make one of the most interesting photos.

 January - Nature

Natural elements Landscapes, wildlife, plants, close-ups of natural scenes, & textures.
